Update: It's confirmed Café Diem is officially closed.
It’s unclear whether or not Café Diem has been closed for a week or just over week, but the locked doors were Café Diem’s choice - until Monday, Oct. 15 when property managers Bandazian & Holden changed the locks.
According to Nathan Hughes, vice president and sales manager at Bandazian, Café Diem is in "default of their lease."
Hughes wouldn’t share the specifics of the default, noting that past due rent is only one way a tenant can be in default (and the most common).
"They have the opportunity to cure the default," he said. "Short of that they’ll stay locked out."
According to Hughes, though, legally the property is available for lease to another party, should one be interested. The going rate for the rent is roughly $4,200 a month.
The property doesn't currently have a second story, but, Hughes mentioned, one could be added, possibly creating a rooftop deck or other outdoor seating, should anyone (including Diem) want to undertake the renovation.
Café Diem had been operating out of the 600 N. Sheppard St. spot in the Museum District for just over a decade.
